Qurbani for Scotland's needy - 2009 appeal
Date: 6th November 2009

Every year on the day of Eid-Ul-Adha all over the world Qurbani is performed. The word Qurbani, in reference to Eid-Ul-Adha, means the sacrifice of animal in the name of Allah.

All adult Muslims are required to offer such a sacrifice on Eid-Ul-Adha, a day that marks the end of the holy pilgrimage to Makkah – Hajj, and help those in need with it.

Many of us who are fortunate enough to have the wealth to perform this do so by sending money abroad to have Qurbani performed in countries with a large population of people living in poverty. However, it is just as important to help those less fortunate on our doorstep as it to help those in other countries.

The Scottish- Islamic Foundation's Qurbani Project aims to do just this.

These Qurbanis will then be packaged and delivered to asylum seeker and refugee communities in, and around, Glasgow.

We are also keen to help homeless the homeless. If you are able to help with distribution in this area, please get in touch with us.

Donate Your Qurbani

The cost for each Qurbani is £110 which can be paid in several ways. By Paypal:

or a direct payment into our account (if taking this option, please mark the payment with your name and send us an email with your details):
Lloyds TSB
Sort code: 30-25-83
Acc no: 00343704

We also accept payments by cheque which should be made payable to the 'Scottish Islamic Foundation' and sent to our offices. Deadline for Qurbani orders to reach us is Thursday 26th November at midday.

Donate Your Time

On the 28th of November we will be putting together teams of volunteers to distribute the meat. We're in need of as many volunteers as we can get. If you're able to help us out on the day then please get in touch.

Last year we successfully gave out food packs containing Qurbani, rice, garlic and ginger. It was a very humbling experience and a good reminder that although many of us had celebrated Eid with our friends and families a few days before there were plenty of others who did not have the same luxuries.
